School building

School building

Schöneggstrasse 156, 8953 Dietikon

Initial situation

A wood chip heating system together with a gas burner provides the heat supply at the school complex - the gas burner kicks in when a particularly large amount of energy is needed. The building is due to be demolished in the next few years, although the exact date has not yet been determined. The town of Dietikon has been wondering about the unusually high energy and gas consumption for some time - so far the cause has not been clarified.

Solution

First, LoRa sensors were installed in the various school wings to record the temperatures and operating states in the substations. At the same time, an interface to the existing building management system (BMS) was set up so that the heat generation data could also be read out via BACnet.
This created a solid data basis for the entire heating system of the school grounds. With the Oxoia platform, this data can be easily evaluated and clearly visualized. This makes it possible to identify specific optimization opportunities and derive targeted measures.

Results to date

Thanks to the measures implemented, the property's energy consumption has been significantly reduced. Better coordination between the pellet heating system and the gas burner has greatly reduced gas consumption.

  • Energy consumption: -327 MWh/year
  • CO2 emissions: -90.4 t CO2eq/year
  • Operating costs: -65,400 CHF/year
